3D World Street Painting Festival Arnhem

3D World Street Painting Festival Arnhem

From July 9th until September 3rd you can see beautiful 3D street paintings in Arnhem.
This years theme is ‘Nature’. Last years theme was ‘Olympics’, in 2015 it was ‘Van Gogh’ and in 2014 ‘Freedom WW2’.For the 4th year 11 artists from all over the world find their way to Arnhem to decorate our streets. You can find the artwork on several locations spread over the city center.

Arnhem Central Station / LEON KEER – THE NETHERLANDS

The only Dutch artist this year is Leon Keer. He made melting ice blocks with 3 girls in a thinking pose (inspired by Rodin’s ‘The Thinker’). The girl is his niece Sanne.
Leon also made a 3D street painting last year at the same location and selected most of the artists for this years World Street Painting Festival edition.
You might have seen some of his other work roaming the internet, like this piece that he made for the 3D Canvas Art Festival in Dubai this year. This 4D painting landed Leon a 3rd place.

Arnhem Central Station / TRACY LEE STUM – USA

With this 3D artwork Tracey really makes a full circle combining the nature theme, California where she is from and Arnhem. In the background you see a little bit of Cali, and all the animals pictures are from the area. The boy is Ian, a family friend.
The link to Arnhem can be found at the bottom of the painting. She included elements that can be found is Escher paintings. Escher used to live in Arnhem and the iconic staircase in his paintings is inspired by the staircase of a school in the Schoolstraat in Arnhem.

Recently Tracy made an 3D street art painting for Katy Perry. This to promote her new album Witness and the 5 day long livestream on Youtube.
Tracy also had a Guinness Book World Record with her name on it. She made the biggest chalk street painting made by 1 person. Unfortunately the record was broken not too long ago.

In 2016 Tracy also made a painting at the World Street Painting Festival. She made a 4D piece that could be found at the Museum Arnhem.

Museum Arnhem / ROBERTO CARLOS TREVINO RODRIGUEZ – MEXICO

Roberto was here 2 years ago and painted a very realistic tube of paint.
13 years back he made his 1st 3D painting and since then he was hooked.

He often makes 3D plastic petals and portraits, 2 extremes but both so detailed.
Roberto likes coming to Arnhem because of all the art around him. The statues, murals and creative minds inspire him.
This year for the ‘nature’ theme Roberto made a captured monkey in front of the MuseumArnhem. The waste / plastic limits the monkey to be free.
Together with 3D artist Frederike he organises a 3D street painting festival in Germany later this year.

Bartokplein / TONY CUBOLIQUIDO – ITALY

Tony made a flying machine. The wings are tree branches, on the back end of the flying machine you’ll see a money that is near extension and the headlights are jellyfish.
At the Canvas 3D Festival (2017) Tony won 1st prize. He also made a large 3D indoor painting at the BOKA in Arnhem. Definitely worth a visit!

Willemsplein / FREDERIKE WOUTERS – GERMANY

Frederike loves making bears and for this 3D Street Art she made two polar bears. They are stick on this piece of ice but you can still save them by throwing the buoy. That is exactly the message she want’s to get across. Humans can turn around this climate change but we have to do so NOW. Otherwise this little polar bear will not make it.

Frederike mostly works in Germany, together with Roberto Carlos. She already made 40 pieces this year!

Two years ago she painted Van Gogh on the same spot as she did now. She loves the fountain and the interaction with people who pass by.

Workstation / TOMO SAITO – JAPAN

Tomo created a classic cultivated Japanese garden. It seems safe at first but the cat is looking for a fish to catch. Danger lurks everywhere even when you think it’s a safe place (don’t think about that for too long… ).

Last year Tomo also made it to Arnhem, he made this 3D artwork for the Brazil Olympics theme.

Gele Rijdersplein / DANI SHMELEV – RUSSIA

Can you read what the word says? It’s HARMONY. Dani wants to make clear that people and nature should live more in harmony than we do now. We don’t need all the stuff we have now and we can adapt easily to new situation even when they might be uncomfortable for us.

This is the 1st time Dani’s in Arnhem. He usually makes more commercial pieces and he likes the freedom he gets during the World Steet Painting Festival in Arnhem.
He won the 2nd place at the Dubai Canvas 3D Art Festival this year.

Velperplein – FATMA AL-ALI – UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Fatma is the youngest artist at the World Street Painting festival this year.

Unfortunately, she could not finish her artwork. Due to heavy rain the piece was heavily damaged and took loads of time to repair.
This is the first time Fatma worked out of the UAE and since it’s not allowed to travel alone as a female she took her brother with her.

Velperplein – QI XINGHUA – CHINA

What Qi made is pretty clear: A turtle and snake. Turtle is one of the four guardians of the compass. The turtle with a snake coiled around it (known as the Dark Warrior) rules the North, including the northern part of the sky (phoenix bird rules the South, tiger rules the West and dragon the East).

Velperplein / JENNY McCRACKEN – AUSTRALIA

Jenny is the best known 3D street artist in Australia. This painting in Arnhem is called ‘Plastic Poseidon’. The message this piece sends out is that we all have to work hard to prevent pollution. All of us can make a difference!

Take a look at the details in her peice. Can you spot the plastic fish that normally holds soy sauce when you order sushi?
At the 2015 World Street Painting Festival in Arnhem she won the 1st price with her Van Gogh painting.

Besides this 3D street painting, she also made one at Burgers’ Zoo to celebrate the opening of the new Mangrove. She will also make another mural in town to promote the Mangrove (the mangrove is stunning FYI).

Molenplaats / JEAN MARC NAVELLO – FRANCE

Last stop on the 3D Street Painting tour brings us to the Molenplaats in Sonsbeek Park.
Jean created 2 large flowers and a pencil. For the 3D effect you can stand inside the flowers or hold the pencil.

Jean had to make some last minute adapting to his creation because the floor is so steep at the Molenplaats. This would not create the 3D effect Jean wanted to he had to go back to the drawing board to fix it. Good thing he dd because the piece now is beautiful! 🙂

Did you already take a pic of or with a 3D Street Painting? We’d love to see it!
Place it below the Facebook post.
